About Us
The Aquatic Animal Alliance (AAA), created and led by Aquatic Life Institute, is a coalition of advocacy organizations dedicated to improving the welfare of aquatic animals exploited by the food system around the world. The AAA works through industry engagement, policy advocacy, public education, and scientific research to promote and implement practices that protect and enhance the lives of aquatic animals. Both the aquaculture and fisheries industries operate on a global scale; therefore, our advocacy must also be globally unified to ensure meaningful change. Our alliance embraces the collective power of experienced advocates and leaders in the animal welfare, sustainability, conservation, food systems transformation and policy spaces to enact meaningful and impactful change.
The Aquatic Animal Alliance houses two action groups: the Coalition for Aquatic Conservation (CAC) and the Aquatic Animal Policy (AAP) focus group. These specialized groups are composed of members dedicated to advancing their respective missions. Both groups are strategically engaged for specific, time-sensitive opportunities, such as report sign-ons or targeted advocacy. While these actions mirror the efforts of the Aquatic Animal Alliance coalition, the CAC and AAP operate more opportunistically, focusing instead on opportunities that align with their unique missions to maximize impact.

Our Vision
The vision of the Aquatic Animal Alliance is a world where all aquatic animals live free from suffering. We aspire to be a global leader in advocating for the welfare of aquatic animals in the food system, uniting efforts across nations to promote humane practices, raise public awareness, and drive policy changes. Our goal is to ensure that international standards for aquatic animal products consider comprehensive welfare conditions of the animal while covering the entire life-cycle. We achieve this through various types of interventions executed by AAA members around the world.
Our Approach
Collaborative work as a coalition can be much more effective than varied individual efforts. AAA members coordinate behind collective lobbying and engagement with stakeholders, ensuring that more welfare policies are passed and implemented, and that proposed policies are crafted strategically and comprehensively for maximum impact.
